Raden Ngabehi Ranggawarsita
1802-1873 · Sufism · Little-known
Ranggawarsita served as a poet and philosopher at the Javanese court, and he gave Indonesia its name for a rotten era: Jaman Edan, the Age of Madness, where joining the madness pays and staying honest leaves you hungry. The lines come from his Serat Kalatidha. He braided Sufi, Hindu-Buddhist and older Javanese teaching into kejawen, in which soul and God are one thing with no division left between them, Manunggaling Kawula Gusti.
