René Guénon

Guénon was a French Traditionalist, which for him meant that behind every authentic religion stands one primordial truth, a single metaphysics handed down through unbroken chains of initiation from teacher to pupil. The modern West has lost the thread, and he read modernity as a spiritual catastrophe rather than progress. He converted to Islam and spent his last decades in Cairo as a Sufi.
