Bidiya Dandarovich Dandaron
1914-1974 · Indo-Tibetan Buddhism · Obscure
Dandaron was a Buryat Buddhist lama and scholar of Tibet, recognized in childhood as a tulku, a teacher held to be his predecessor reborn. He spent years in Soviet labor camps and picked up Western philosophy there from fellow prisoners. He tried to weld Tibetan tantric Buddhism to Kant's critical philosophy and to modern science, a project he called Neobuddhism. He died in the camps.
