Li Zhi (李贄), style name Zhuowu (卓吾)
1527-1602 · Neo-Confucianism · Prominent
Li Zhi held office in the late Ming, then resigned it, took Buddhist tonsure without leaving the world, and called himself a heretic on purpose. The one honest mind is the mind you have before doctrine enters through the ears and the eyes, which made the Classics a den of frauds. He refused Confucius as the measure of anything and taught women students. He cut his throat in prison in 1602.
