Illiberalism (0) — Liberalism (100) · one of the 20 worldview axes

The six statements

Each axis is measured by six statements answered on a five-point scale. Statements 1, 2 and 5 pull toward Illiberalism; 3, 4 and 6 toward Liberalism.

  1. When freedom and equality clash, freedom should win.
  2. The government should stay neutral between different ways of living and let people choose for themselves.
  3. The government has a real duty to restrict some freedoms in order to promote virtue and moral character in its citizens.
  4. A society whose schools teach only skills and never shared values gradually loses the bonds that hold it together.
  5. A person who is free to read what they like, say what they think, and live as they choose is better off than one whose choices are shaped by the state.
  6. A parent who lets their child do whatever they want "to respect their autonomy" has abandoned their responsibility; and a state that treats citizens the same way does the same.
