Portrait of Mo Di

Mo Di

470-391 BC · Hundred Schools · Prominent

Mozi founded Mohism, the first school to take on Confucius. Why should a stranger's child matter less to you than your own? He said it should not, and built his teaching around jian'ai, care spread across everyone alike, against a loyalty that stops at the clan. Lavish funerals and wars of conquest failed his test, whether people end up fed and safe, which he took from Heaven's own will. His followers worked on logic and siege defense.
