The six statements

Each axis is measured by six statements answered on a five-point scale. Statements 1, 2 and 5 pull toward Local; 3, 4 and 6 toward Global.

  1. What I owe to strangers anywhere in the world is in principle no less than what I owe to my own people.
  2. A just person treats every human being as equally worthy of concern, regardless of nation, tribe, or creed.
  3. My first and deepest obligations are to my own; my family, my people, my faith, my tradition.
  4. Caring most for one's own tribe is not a prejudice to be overcome but the basic form of moral life.
  5. A citizen who votes for policies that help refugees abroad at some cost to her countrymen has acted rightly.
  6. A mother who would bend a rule to protect her own child over a stranger's child has her priorities exactly right.
