The six statements

Each axis is measured by six statements answered on a five-point scale. Statements 1, 2 and 5 pull toward Pacifism; 3, 4 and 6 toward Militarism.

  1. Killing another human being is wrong even in self-defense.
  2. The tragedies of war should not be treated as a fact of life.
  3. War is a legitimate instrument of justice and can be morally necessary to defeat evil.
  4. A nation can rightly launch a war of aggression when the gains for its own people are great enough.
  5. A people under brutal occupation who choose patient nonviolent resistance over armed uprising take the morally higher path, even when the patience required is long.
  6. When a brutal regime harms its own citizens, an outside coalition should intervene with force to stop it.
