Portrait of Isaac Luria (ha-Ari)

Isaac Luria (ha-Ari)

1534-1572 · Jewish Thought · Known

Luria was a kabbalist of the town of Safed, known to his followers as ha-Ari, who told creation as a disaster. God draws himself back to leave room for a world, the vessels made to hold his light crack under the strain, and the sparks scatter into everything there is. Your prayers and your conduct gather those sparks back up, the work his school called tikkun, the mending of a broken world.
