Jorge Luis Borges
1899-1986 · Latin American · Prominent
Borges was an Argentine writer who made short stories carry arguments inside them: a library holding every possible book, a man whose memory forgets nothing. A skeptic who doubted God and leaned toward idealism, he denied there is any self standing behind the thoughts, and pushed the claim that only minds exist as far as it would go. Then he conceded, to his regret, that the world is real.
