Florence Nightingale
1820-1910 · Human Sciences · Prominent
Nightingale set out her theology in Suggestions for Thought, a book she had printed for private circulation in 1860 and never published. God is a perfect Being who governs by unbreakable law, and those laws express his character, so uncovering them, the statistics of disease and poverty included, is the only real theology. A God that steady leaves no room for caprice: no miracle, no answered prayer, no eternal punishment.
