The six statements

Each axis is measured by six statements answered on a five-point scale. Statements 1, 2 and 5 pull toward Bondage; 3, 4 and 6 toward Bliss.

  1. Knowing a painful truth is always better than resting in a comfortable illusion.
  2. No knowledge is forbidden: whatever can be known should be known.
  3. Some illusions hold a life together, and tearing them away is wrong.
  4. It is better to be happy than to be right.
  5. Handed a sealed envelope containing the whole truth about your life, including everything you would rather not know, you should open it.
  6. A town whose peace rests on a founding myth is better served by the elder who guards the story than by the scholar who debunks it.
