Simone Weil

Weil was a French philosopher and mystic who took a year away from a teaching post to work a factory floor, then went to Spain with an anarchist column, sharing the condition of workers and soldiers. She treated attention, the kind that empties you out so another person's affliction can get in, as a form of prayer. Drawn to Christ, she refused baptism to stay with the unbaptized.
